Abstract

The betok fish (Anabas testudineus) is one of the endogenous Indonesian species which is distributed in swamps and rivers. one of its distribution areas is in the public waters of South Sumatra and its distribution covers South Asia and Southeast Asia. In fact, it is now starting to become rare and threatened with extinction because the water environmental conditions are less supportive for the development of aquaculture due to pollution and environmental conditions in the water. The betok fish (Anabas Testudineus, Bloch) is a fish native to Indonesia that lives in fresh and brackish water habitats. This fish has high economic value. The natural habitat of this fish includes small rivers, grassy rivers, ponds, flooded swamps, ditches and other types of waters. This fish is also popular as a dessert which is very popular among the public because of its sweet and tasty flesh, so this type of fish has opportunities for cultivation potential. Research on the Anabas testudineus fish aims to examine aspects of both bioecology, distribution and reproductive aspects of the fish. in order to find out information related to the habitat characteristics and cultivation potential of betok fish through literature relating to local fish that have the potential to be cultivated. Morphologically, the betok fish has the characteristics of a blunt, scaly head, short snout, terminal mouth, thin and serrated lips. With an upright, rounded flat body shape and a dorsal fin located at the anterior part of the body and hard spines on the dorsal fin.
