Abstract

The sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii), Indonesian endemic species found in Gunung Leuser National Park, face off the threat of natural habitat destruction and poaching. One of the sumatran orangutans exsitu conservation area is Taman Safari Indonesia. The research aims to determine daily activities of sumatran orangutans in Taman Safari Indonesia on 28th January – 27th February 2015 in Primates Center, Taman Safari  Indonesia, Cisarua, Bogor used scan sampling method combined with one-zero method. Four individual sumatran orangutans (one male and three females) observation carried out in the exhibit every workday since sumatran orangutans issued to the exhibit (around 08:30 am) until put back into the cage bed (around 04:45 pm). The daily activities of sumatran orangutans in Taman Safari Indonesia are rest activities (22.01%) rest in sit and sleepposition; feed activities (21.98%): code, catch, take, peel, chew, and swallow food; urination (1.02%) and defecation (0.37%); social activities (8.85%): playing and grooming; mate activities (0.40%): masturbation and copulation; locomotion activities (45.37%): swing, climb, and walk.Keywords: sumatran orangutan, exsitu, scan sampling, Taman Safari Indonesia
