Kinerja Kelembagaan Perbenihan Padi di Sumatera Selatan

Using of qualified seed is important because it is one of the deciding factors in the final output. Therefore farmers should be able to pursue very good quality seed. This research aim to know the performance of existing institutional of seed in its support to produce rice seed in South Sumatra. Survey had been done in six regencies, namely: Banyuasin, OKU Timur, Muara Enim, Musi Rawas, Lahat and Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) regency. In choosing the location of survey, a purposive sampling was employed. The activity was conducted from March until June 2013. Sampling methods using Disproportionate stratified random sampling. Data will be collected through interviews with respondent from six BBU, two BBI and twelve grower paddy seed groups. The results showed that the average of land area is used for paddy grown in BBU, BBI and grower paddy seed were 13.50; 5.86 and 32.50 ha respectively, the productivity of harvested dry grain were 3.50; 3.53 and 4.98 tons/ha. The average production of seeds produced in 2012 by BBI was 12.71 tons; BBU was 9.30 tons and seed grower was 135.16 tons. Both BBI and BBU current human resources is insufficient, the average only one officer. Whereas in the grower seed group, organizations woke stronger and more complete relatively. The Seed institutions of seed such as BBI and BBU in producing qualified paddy seed in South Sumatra are classified well, while the grower seed has a quite performance.
