Erning IndrastutiDanie Indra Yama<p><em>Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) is a fiber-producing plantation crop that is processed into textile industry materials. Cotton seeds are oily seeds with a fat content of about 32.5%. The hygroscopic nature of seeds means their moisture content is always balanced with the surrounding environment, so the addition of absorbent materials, such as desiccant, is needed to control the moisture around the seeds and keep them dry during storage. This study aims to determine the effect of desiccant type on cotton seed storage. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a factorial pattern of 3 replications. The first factor was the type of desiccant: no desiccant (S<sub>0</sub>), wood charcoal (S<sub>1</sub>), husk ash (S<sub>2</sub>), and silica gel (S<sub>3</sub>). The second factor was the storage period of 30 days (D<sub>1</sub>), 45 days (D<sub>2</sub>), and 60 days (D<sub>3</sub>). Each treatment consisted of 3 replicates, each with 100 seeds. The parameters observed were seed moisture content, germination, vigor index, seed germination uniformity, and germination rate. However, cocoa productivity in the region remains relatively low and is declining, which is believed to be linked to suboptimal implementation of crop management practices. Furthermore, studies on the impact of management factors on cocoa productivity at the farmer level remain limited. This study aims to analyze the simultaneous and partial effects of maintenance factors on cocoa productivity in Soppeng Regency. The study was conducted from November 2025 to January 2026 in the Marioriwawo Subdistrict of Soppeng Regency. This study employed a quantitative, survey-based approach. The sample consisted of 110 productive cocoa farmers selected through snowball sampling based on specific criteria. Data collection was conducted via questionnaires, field observations, and interviews. Data analysis utilized descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression. The results indicate that all maintenance factors collectively significantly influence cocoa plant productivity. Pest and disease control partially influenced cocoa plant productivity (ρ < 0.01). Pruning and sanitation were significant at the 10% significance level but not at the 5% level. Meanwhile, fertilization and fertilizer application rates did not have a statistically significant effect on cocoa productivity. However, heavy dependence on oil palm farming may increase household vulnerability to economic shocks and income instability. This study aimed to analyze household income structure, income diversification, and their implications for the economic resilience of independent oil palm smallholders in Bonai Village, Riau Province. The research was conducted in Bonai Village, Riau Province, from August to December 2025. The population consisted of 643 independent oil palm smallholders, and 42 respondents were selected using the Slovin formula, along with several additional considerations. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach using farm income analysis, household income structure analysis, and the Simpson Index of Diversity (SID). The results showed that oil palm farming generated an average net income of IDR 78,346,821 per year, while the average household income reached IDR 10,227,473 per month, comprising 63.84% on-farm income, 9.03% off-farm income, and 27.13% non-farm income. Income diversification was dominated by the medium category (64.29% of households). A notable finding is that diversification was driven primarily by non-farm activities rather than agricultural diversification, indicating that households relied on employment, trade, and service activities to complement oil palm income, yet remained highly dependent on the oil palm sector. However, seedling production requires adequate and regular watering, which may increase labor and water use, especially during dry periods. This study aimed to evaluate watering efficiency and growing-media moisture in M. bracteata seedlings by adding crystal hydrogel at different watering intervals. The study was conducted in the greenhouse of the Indonesian Palm Oil Technology Institute, Medan, North Sumatra, from August to October 2025. A non-factorial completely randomized design was used, consisting of five treatments: without hydrogel with watering twice a day, hydrogel with watering twice a day, hydrogel with watering once a day, hydrogel with watering once every three days, and hydrogel with watering once every five days. The observed variables were plant height, number of leaves, plant fresh and dry weight, growing media fresh and dry weight, and media moisture. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance, followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. The results showed additional of crystal hydrogel to the growing media of M. bracteata seedlings under different watering intervals significantly affected media moisture at 4–8 weeks after planting. However, cocoa productivity is often constrained by poor seedling quality, unsuitable planting media, and limited nutrient availability. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the morphological and physiological responses of several cocoa clones grown in different planting media compositions to identify the most suitable combination for seedling growth. The experiment was conducted using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors. The first factor consisted of three cocoa clones: Sulawesi 01 (K<sub>1</sub>), MCC 02 (K<sub>2</sub>), and ICCRI 09 (K<sub>3</sub>). The second factor comprised four planting media compositions (M<sub>0</sub>, M<sub>1</sub>, M<sub>2</sub>, and M<sub>3</sub>), resulting in 12 treatment combinations. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% significance level whenever significant differences were detected. The results showed that the interaction between clone MCC 02 (K<sub>2</sub>) and planting medium M<sub>3</sub> (25% topsoil + 25% rice husk ash + 25% cocoa pod husk compost + 25% chicken manure) produced the best growth response by significantly increasing the number of leaves to 13.33 leaves at 90 days after planting (DAP). In contrast, the highest leaf chlorophyll content (3.43 mg kg⁻¹ at 90 DAP) was obtained from the combination of clone MCC 02 and planting medium M<sub>2</sub>. Independently, clone MCC 02 exhibited superior vegetative and physiological performance compared with Sulawesi 01 and ICCRI 09, as indicated by the largest stem diameter (8.24 mm), the highest leaf area index (21.01 cm²), and the greatest stomatal conductance (15.24 mmol m⁻² s⁻¹) at 90 DAP. Upland rice can be used as an intercrop, but farmers' decisions to cultivate it differ across households. This study aimed to analyze the socioeconomic factors affecting farmers' decisions to cultivate upland rice on smallholder oil palm replanting land in Cikeusik and Munjul Subdistrict. Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province. A quantitative descriptive and explanatory survey was conducted from December 2025 to April 2026. The sample consisted of 100 farmers selected by proportional random sampling from 269 farmers who participated in the replanting program and cultivated upland rice. Primary data were collected through structured interviews, field observations, and documentation, and then analyzed using validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, and multiple linear regression in IBM SPSS Statistics. Household income and capital, extension and information access, and social and institutional support had positive and significant effects on farmers' decisions, whereas labor availability and family dependents had a negative and significant effect. Age, education, farming experience, land size, and risk perception were not significant. The results indicate that farmers' decisions were driven mainly by economic capacity, access to information, and institutional support rather than by demographic characteristics.
