Abstrak

Blue porterweed (Stachytarpheta jamaicensis) is one of medicinal plants grow wildly in the forest or yard. Phytochemical screening to identify its active ingredient can be done to enhance the added value of the plant. This study aimed to examine secondary metabolic content from some types of blue porterweed. The research was conducted at Indonesian Spice and Medicinal Crops Research Institute (ISMCRI) from March to August 2013. The main raw material was blue porterweed with different colour of flowers : purple, red and white. The data were analyzed descriptively. Phytochemical screening to identify secondary metabolites was using qualitative and quantitative methods. Parameters observed werequality of raw material, phytochemical and secondary metabolites content. All types of blue porterweed contained alkaloids, saponins, tannins, phenolics, flavonoids, triterpenoids, steroids and glycoside. Further, quantitative method resulted steroid content in the leaf of red, white and purple flower were 2.06%, 1.76% 1.47% respectively; whereas in the stem were 1.35%, 1.35% and 1.38% correspondingly .Keywords: Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, screening, phytochemicals, secondary metabolites
